1975 Raleigh Chopper Mk2 Infra Red
First released in 1972, the Chopper Mk2 was the ‘safer version’ of the Mk1 with the seat strap indicating only one person should be present on the bicycle. Also, the seat was shorter so it wasn’t fit to carry passengers. The Mk2 was a completely different bicycle, however this didn’t affect sales, in fact the Mk2 shot through the roof!
The most popular colours were Infra Red (featured here), Fizzy Lemon, Ultra Violet, Silver, Space Blue and the Prismatic edition (Black).
This was the second Chopper bike I bought, just before my 17th Birthday to pat myself on the back! Two weeks before, I owned a Mk3, released in 2004. The build quality was awful compared to the originals. Hence why I sold it and promised to buy myself a ‘proper Chopper’. Throughout my two years of ownership, I had covered miles and miles on it, pretending I was born in the 70s.
Not bad for a bike that was pulled out of the Thames in Pangbourne and then nut and bolt restored over a ten year period!
