The project all the way from New Jersey!
Recently purchased, is this beautifully original November 1969 Raleigh Chopper Tall Frame Mk1. I picked this one up all the way from New Jersey. These ‘Tall Frames’ are very hard to find in the UK so this was a must have for me, especially as I was after a Mk1 in Brilliant Orange. The bike came to me in a stripped down form with a third of the parts present. Finding original Tall Frame parts is not the easiest task, however I got there eventually with help from about fifteen different parties!
The saddle is the cherry on the cake for me. Niven Ladd reproduced a brand new seat which is identical to an original and the level of craftsmanship is impeccable. He even used the original materials and pattern.
The restoration took approximately four months, from November 2025 - February 2026, making it the lengthiest restoration I have performed! Please see below for pictures of the bike after I completed the restoration. You can click on the pictures in the gallery to see them clearer!
As seen above, this is how the bike arrived with me! A complete frameset, however missing most of its parts. Luckily the wheels also came with it, so it remains matching numbers.
