Wimbledon Southside Car Meet. August 2025
The hottest Southside there has been! It was a scorcher, which is rare for August. From memory, about 25 degrees at 11am. That is especially hot when you are riding round on a Chopper SE. The heaviest of all Choppers. However it was so worth it. I met up with loads of my friends, but lets start with Roy. Roy owns several Bond Bugs and recently finished off his latest build. A fully electric converted Bond Bug in silver/black. It goes particularly well with my Silver SE that Tom Karen also designed. You would have seen on a previous post that we also met up here with my yellow Mk1 and his orange Bug - also electric converted to ease the difficulty of driving it in central London. The photos were taken by my friend Paolo Gibelli. He is an extremely good photographer and shoots everything, mainly automotive. After the little photoshoot and stealing the show (a lot of people surrounding us) I took a short cycle around Wimbledon to grab some food and then go look at the cars. It never disappoints; when was the last time you saw a Maserati Mistral Spider? Southside is not always full of expensive classic cars. I managed to park up next to a pretty Hillman Hunter. An almost extinct model from the 70s and definitely rarer than the Porsche 911 2.7 MFi that was cruising by. Talking of rare, have you ever seen an Iso Rivolta Lele? That was the ‘spectra flame’ paint looking car in the middle of the fifth row. What an awesome design and the first one I have come across. The owner was a big fan of the SE. I wouldn’t be surprised if they were the same year!
